Now in its third year in Japan, APL operates a regular class and consulting program (APL JAPAN) based in Osaka. Its home base is a WeWork office located in Osaka’s Midosuji district; through its Korean WeWork membership, APL makes use of WeWork locations around the world.
APL JAPAN opens its schedule once a month or once every two months, running classes on days 1 through 3 and consulting sessions on days 4 and 5. The program covers not only personal color analysis but also body-frame analysis, and in Japan the head of APL personally provides a small-group, select personal shopper service.
Many of the students work in Japan’s hair industry. Professionals skilled enough to win awards in domestic competitions often enroll to formalize, through theory and structure, work they had previously done on instinct, and APL teaches the full process from theory to hands-on practice. In Japan, personal color is used actively not only in makeup but also in the hair field, so the curriculum addresses hair color and makeup color together.
Follow-up seminars for graduates are also held on an irregular basis. APL noted that students travel to Osaka and Korea from across Japan and abroad, and said it plans to expand its activities to countries beyond Japan going forward.
